CF8 / CF8M versus 304 / 316, and drawing annotation advice

Wrought-steel grades and casting grades belong to different standard systems, so both chemistry requirements and governing standards differ. A casting drawn as 304 is normally melted to CF8 under GB/T 2100 or ASTM A351. For export orders, please note both the casting grade and the standard system relied upon, so that ambiguity in annotation does not turn into a material dispute.

Silica sol versus water glass: how to choose for your part

The two processes differ mainly in binder and shell strength. A silica sol face coat gives better surface finish and dimensional accuracy and suits thin-wall and complex parts, though the cycle is longer; water glass is cheaper and faster but one grade lower on surface and accuracy. Parts of tens to a few hundred grams with surface quality requirements are normally made with silica sol.

Selecting 201, 202 or 304 stainless steel fittings

Corrosion resistance runs 304 > 202 > 201 from high to low, and cost falls in the same order. Grade 201 is sufficient for decorative parts in dry environments; where parts contact water, humidity or mildly corrosive media, go directly to 304. The one situation to avoid in material selection is using a decorative grade on a pressure-bearing line.

One casting or a welded assembly: where the cost line falls

Labour and tooling cost in a welded assembly rises roughly in line with part count, while casting takes a one-time die investment and lower unit cost. As a rule, where the structure is complex, an internal flow passage is required and annual demand exceeds a few hundred pieces, a single casting is more economical; for one-off, oversized or frequently revised parts, welding remains the more flexible option.

What determines a casting's unit price? Three structural design points

At lower quantities the apportioned share of die and tooling cost rises. Uniform wall thickness reduces feeding and grinding hours, consistent radii and wall sections make shell building easier, and delivering non-fit faces as-cast removes a finishing operation. All three are usually settled at the drawing review stage, and they account for most of the gap between competing quotations.

What information does an enquiry need, and how long for a quote

Either a 2D drawing (PDF / DWG) or a 3D model (STEP / IGES / X_T) is sufficient; please also note the material grade, quantity requirement, surface treatment and inspection requirements. A physical sample alone is acceptable and can be reverse-engineered by us. Quotes are returned within 1 – 3 working days once the documentation is complete.

No drawing, only a physical sample — can it be produced

Yes. A physical sample is measured and reverse-modelled into 2D / 3D drawings, after which the process side confirms whether shrinkage allowance, draft angles and wall thickness are reasonable. Please note that a worn or distorted sample should not serve directly as an acceptance datum; we confirm with you the dimension range that can be reproduced during the review stage.

What is the minimum order quantity, and how is it set

Order quantities are negotiated; the figure is set by part complexity, material and whether a new die is required. Most orders we deliver are custom parts made to drawing, and quantity needs differ widely between parts, so we suggest stating annual usage and the first order quantity when enquiring.

5-axis capability in place: angled parts completed in one setup

Since the 5-axis machining centre entered service, castings with inclined hole patterns, curved surfaces and multi-face angles can be finish-machined in one setup, reducing the position error introduced by repeated flipping. The direct effect on delivery is better schedule control, with dimensional and quality responsibility concentrated on a single supplier.

Requirements for shipped documents and retained inspection records clarified

Documents shipped with goods are standardised as a material certificate plus batch inspection records, with chemistry data coming from melt-side spectral analysis of every heat. Inspection records are kept for no less than 3 years and traceable to the specific operation, meeting the document checks of customer factory audits and supplier evaluations.
